A gentle guide

How to write a few words for your pet

You don't have to be a writer to put down what your pet meant to you. A tribute doesn't need to be long or perfect, it just needs to be true. Here are some gentle prompts to help the words come.

Don't start with a blank page, start with a memory

The hardest part is the empty page, so skip it. Picture one ordinary moment with them, a walk, a nap in a sunbeam, the way they greeted you at the door, and simply describe it. That single memory is often the doorway to everything else.

Say who they were

How would you sum up their personality to someone who never met them? Were they gentle, cheeky, brave, daft, devoted? A few honest words about their character say more than a list of dates.

The little things matter most

It's the small, specific details that bring them back to life on the page, the battered toy they wouldn't part with, the exact spot they claimed on the sofa, the sound they made when they were happy, the one food they'd do anything for. Jot down three or four of these. They're the heart of it.

How they came into your life

Every pet has an arrival story, a rescue, a surprise, a long-awaited puppy or kitten. A sentence or two about how you found each other roots the whole tribute in your shared story.

What they gave you

Comfort on hard days, a reason to get outside, years of loyalty, laughter, company. It's alright to say plainly what they meant to you and how they changed your life. That's the truest part.

A closing line

End with something simple and heartfelt, a thank you, a promise, a goodbye. It doesn't need to be poetic. A few examples to borrow or adapt:

If you get stuck

Write it as if you're talking about them to a friend, out loud if it helps. And remember there's no wrong way to do this. Whatever you write, because it comes from you, will be exactly right.

And you don't have to do it alone. If you'd like a memorial made for them, you can simply share your rough notes and memories, and we'll gently shape them into something lovely for you.

We'll write it beautifully, from your words

Share whatever comes to mind, even a few notes, and we'll craft a warm, lasting memorial page for your pet.
